Appleton is mostly suburbia from an Americana time capsule of 30-40 years ago. You can take that as a pro or con.

Wouldn't Lake Geneva take someone back in time too? It's pretty nice.

There's only about 3 things that aren't so good about Lake Geneva.

One, 18 wheelers go through there on the way to and from a cattle slaughter house in Hebron, Illinois overloaded with swinging beef, and those move about as fast as snails, but that doesn't happen but about every other day or so, depending on demand.

Two, summertime traffic jams might make you lose your marbles, especially with all the pedestrian crosswalks along the lake.

Three, parking spots are at a premium, and difficult to find when the town is bustling.

Other that that, it's quaint and cute.

And absolutely overrun with tourists in a way that makes Door County look undiscovered by comparison.

And don't move to south Texas. We already have enough people here complaining about 105 and humid in summer. I know that sounds pretty good to you right now, but the novelty wears off.

The biggest problem I have with Texas in terms of climate is actually its geographic location. It is just WAY TOO FAR SOUTH IN LATITUDE. The sun angle is absolutely scorching and I really wouldn't really recommend anyone with a northern European ancestry background to move to Texas unless you absolutely know what you're getting into. Most European countries are located at a further north latitude than most of the US with the exception of the northern 1/4 of our country.
I've been to Texas and Oklahoma before and I don't appreciate getting a sunburn just walking around outside for a very short period of time. This wasn't even during the Summer there.

I did Phoenix and Tucson for 19 years in the military. Summers are terrible. Summer is from April - November there.
