I haven't been to Eau Claire or Wausau in probably over ten years, but yeah, I think they're somewhat similar; roughly the same size, large Hmong populations (Wausau more so), the northwoods start just north of both cities so quite a bit of recreation nearby. I would say I've always preferred Eau Claire a bit more, it's closer to the Twin Cities, has a four year university, and it's on the edge of the bucolic Driftless Region. Wausau seemed a bit more industrial to me, but maybe that's just the paper mills in the area. And a lot can change in ten years.

Madison, of course, is completely different. Except everybody likes the Packers and bratwursts in all 3 cities.

I have to say Madison. I love the city it's bigger and more people.

All 3 are fantastic cities, however, I like Madison best. Have been to all 3 numerous times. I'd rank them: Madison, Wausau, then Eau Claire. In terms of raising a family, I'd say Stevsns Point would be one of my top choices, very safe community with good people. If I had to choose a place to live, I'd go either Madison or Point. Stvens Point/Plover has significantly expanded in recent years.

Prefer Stevens Point over Wausau! Just as many amenities but in a more community atmosphere. 20 min to CWA airport.
Madison would be a 2nd choice after Point.
