Our neighbor always left some wood by our back door when we still weren't here full time.
I forgot to add I have enjoyed meeting EKG from this board (Ellen) and I also had lunch in Appleton with some women I met through an on-line book club. People here are so friendly! It is another way for me to expand my circle of Wisconsin friends.

I agree with Kate. The internet does offer another way to make friends. I knew Kate and I would hit it off. We talked like we knew each other for years!

Yes we did hit it off well. My husband laughed that we sounded like we were long lost friends. I agree the internet can be a great way to be people who share your interests. The 1st time I went to meet someone I met online, back in NY, my husband was so nervous. I was laughing, we belonged to an online Mom's chat and had talked for 2 years. Six of us met at a restaurant and my husband acted like it was an ax murderer. We are all still friends today.

I belong to another site, travel related and I've made great friends. One of them, Phyll, lives in Wisconsin part of the year and we'd always meet for lunch when I wasn't working. She was amazed when she was in the hospital that I drove up to see her.

We literally met the first time in the Milwaukee airport parking garage! I parked and was going across a crosswalk and there was Phyll driving in and not stopping! We've gotten a good chuckle over it.

I've had people question whether I should meet up with people (being a single gal and all) but not a problem. When you talk online about subjects that interest you, you already have things in common. My pal, April, in San Francisco she and I travel together as her husband doesn't care for cruising and we get along great. I met her and her mom on another trip then we decided to do a couple of trips ourselves.

Right now I live in MD. So everything is probably different in WI then here, I suspect. ;-)

People are people no matter where you live. We suffered quite a culture shock moving to NH. We never adjusted to the people but we still had fun. It is our nature. We hiked, camped, went to plays, concerts, explored the area. The people there weren't friendly but we managed to find some outsiders to be friendly with. The locals kept to themselves and that was fine with us. But rudeness couldn't stop us from going to a play or a concert, we made our time there interesting and we covered a lot of area.

I've met a few WI people here in CA and they seem quite nice to me. I would not mind checking out WI one day. I heard the state is very German in its heritage so I know I'd feel very much at home there.:-)

There are German, Polish, Belgium, French Canadian and Indian folks. Wisconsin was formed by a glacier back in the ice age.
