Hi brrabit, is there a way of checking a house's susceptibility to flooding? We have our Environment Agency website, in the UK.

Thanks everyone, for your thoughts and info, very kind! Much as I'd like to seal it in our minds now, I guess we're going to have to do some racing around when we get out there late October, refreshing our memories, trying out 'commutes', and seeing what houses are up for rent by then.

Not that I am aware of. Other than good old topographic maps. I live on a street which has several houses (not all together, but in multiple spots) pumping water out of their sum pump wells all summer non-stop (ground water come real close) whereas my basement did not see a drop in my sum pump well even after the worst rains.

Having said that, Wisconsin is covered with swamps and many suburbs are build on drained swamps. And some areas (like Ozaukee county) have flood road closures each or nearly each summer.

On the other hand, people like to live there, so it ain't too bad I guess. Just something to be aware

My sister moved to the Milwaukee area (Fox Point) last year with her husband who is from the UK & their daughter. They love the school her daughter attends in Fox Point. Not sure if you're still checking these, but if you are, I would be interested in hearing where you ended up.
