We have a signed offer on a nice home in North Appleton and will be moving there from Phoenix in early June. We have made four trips to the area over the last six months for interviewing, house-hunting, and to see a Packer game. I have been more and more impressed each visit with the friendliness and helpfullness of the people in Appleton. If I had any qualms when I started the relocation process they have long since vanished. I am excited to raise my kids in a smaller, friendlier city and look forward to getting to know my know neighbors and members of the community.

Congratulations on finding a house and good luck with your move! Getting here in early June is great, kids will have time to adjust before school starts, sounds like a good plan!

I grew up in Southern Wisconsin, but haven't lived in the state since '94. We'll see how thin my blood is after living in Phoenix for the last 9 yrs. The kids will enjoy winter. For them snow, sledding, skating, etc. is one big novelty. After a few years they'll probably get a little tired of it like we all do. After living in both the cold and the extreme heat I've learned that there is no perfect place. As long as your family is happy, you have an enjoyable job and you are happy with your community you can put up with a few bad months.

Congrats on your move!!! We're hopefully moving back in 3 years near the Fox Cities area to raise our family in a much better enviroment too! We're in Hampton Roads VA now, nothing to brag about for sure. Can you give me any advice on how you are doing it? Are you selling a house in Phoenix now? I'm so worried on how to buy/sell and find new jobs with our next move considering we have kids now. Good luck!

Your blood will thicken up once you are here. My brother visited back in February. I am walking around outside in a sweatshirt and he had on a sweatshirt and a jacket!

My wife and I are both physicians, so we needed to lock down the job part before considering moving. We accomplished that this winter. Unfortunately we couldn't have picked a worse time to sell our home in Phx. The real estate market here is in the tank. The good thing is that we have a lot of equity in our Phx house and the housing prices in Appleton are significantly less than those in Phx. So, we'll tighten our belts while we are paying two mortgages.

Be sure to take the kids to the children museum, get tickets early for family day at Lambeau (sometime in the beginning of August, I seem to remember) and don't drive downtown on Friday and Saturday nights. Oh, and check out PB Loco cafe (in a strip mall north of the mall). Its a chain place, but really good, especially for kids (and parents) who love peanut butter. And for awesome, reasonably priced Indian food, go to Sai Ram (am I spelling that right?).

Thanks for the info...best of luck to you and your wife. The housing market is well in the dumps here in VA too. Lots of foreclosures, housing prices are still going up greatly (our house assessed $96K more than when we bought it 3 years ago), etc. I just went and priced houses in the GB area and I was really impressed. Hopefully the housing market will pick up. We're looking to move in 3 years but my homesickness is already getting out of control! I'll be up there visiting next month though, cant wait!

Again thanks for your insight!
