Do you have anything against the suburbs of Milwaukee? You would be well-received in Shorewood, St. Francis, Whitefish Bay, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale and Wauwatosa. In the city, Bay View area, and all of the east side of Milwaukee.

why is it you are the second person to say we should consider elsewhere ? Is Janeville filled with bigots that don't want any gay people ?

It's a definite blue-collar city. Based on the posts you made prior to coming to the Wisconsin forum, I don't think Janesville fits what you are looking for.

Well, Janesville is where Paul Ryan lives, so that's at least one bigot.

The definition of "bigot", is "a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions." I'm not sure if Paul Ryan is a bigot, but the shoe seems to fit you quite well.

Maybe you can tell us what Paul Ryan, the ideas guy behind the Republican party, has done for the LGBT community lately.

I'll save you some time. Here's the Republican party platform, outlining all the ways they'd like to eliminate same-sex marriage and allow other parties to discriminate against same-sex couples. That's exactly who I'd want as a neighbor!

Know a few gay couples in Janesville. They have never had a problem. Doesn't mean you wont deal with some idiot at some time, but then again you could have to deal with the same even in LGBT "friendly" cities like Madison.

OP - if you are truly looking for a place to quietly go about life and enjoy an affordable community with your partner, Janesville will be fine. You see, most of the world doesn't care if you are gay or not. We simply don't have the time to bother with other peoples personal lives. OTOH, if you go to a community with a limited LGBT population and decide to reform their opinions toward LGBT by making a big deal out of being gay, Janesville is not going to be where you find happiness.

To my knowledge, (not an expert, mind you) there are no LGBT festivals, marches, parades, or events in the Janesville community. If you are looking for activism, support, or a larger LGBT community to be part of, the two metro areas in Wisconsin would be better choices. Another option I am familiar with where there is a significant LGBT population in smaller communities would be just north of Janesville in Jefferson County in the communities of Fort Atkinson or Lake Mills. Both are smaller, beautiful areas, and offer a more diverse population that is likely more inclusive than Janesville when it comes to being LGBT friendly.
