Yes, definitely, you can learn about other people and other places - it's a vast world out there. LOTS of rain down here, all through last night and today and hasn't let up. Oh well - I think Tuesday should be pretty nice. Hope everybody has a great week!!

Susan, I've heard of Cairo. It's very unfortunate what they place looks like.

Mt. Mitchell is in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains.

This is the route I'm taking down. I think this way will be more hassle free. When I've traveled through Southern IL in the past it was pretty dead compared to highways like 80, 90, 94 et cetera. It's only a difference of maybe an hour.

Josh: How are you splitting up the trip? You're not driving straight through, are you?? I'll be curious how it goes as I'm thinking about going there too, perhaps late summer or fall.

Sue, I may be driving straight through. I did all 15 hours in one day last year.

My schedule goes like this, their is still a few corks in the schedule.

Friday May 15th
-Leave Wisconsin around noon and hopefully make it to Paducah or Land Between the Lakes by 10pm. Possibly stay in a hotel?

Saturday May 16th
-Leave place I stayed and take off for Knoxville. 5-6 or hours of driving left, hopefully.
-Check in at a Knoxville Hotel for the night or two?

Sunday May 17th
-Check neighboring cities around Knoxville and see the city itself.

Monday May 18th
-Leave Knoxville head to Erwin, Tennessee and spend the rest of the week enjoying Tennessee's mountain cities et cetera. Head to North Carolina?

It sounds like a great schedule and you really have it planned. I've only been through Knoxville so I'll be interested in hearing what you think about it, what it's like and what there is to see. Will you re-visit some of the TN places you last went to? I really hope you get to Boone as I hear some fantastic things about that place. A friend of mine left WI for Pilot Mountain, NC 8 years ago and bought a log house with a great view of the mountain. That would sort of be my dream some day!!!!

Have fun on your trip Josh!!

Wouldnt it be faster if you took I-39 South to Bloomington,Illinois and take I-55 West to I-74 and take I-74 to I-75 in Cincinnati and then take that to US 25E???

Sounds like a great plan and an awesome trip! I like Paducah, the downtown area by the river is neat, people out walking, parks, restaurants, nice atmosphere. Land between the Lakes is neat, too, in a more camping, fishing, family type way!

I go down to Waynesboro, TN to the Tennessee Fitness Spa and I stop in Paducah or near Land between the Lakes! I haven't been to Knoxville in many years. A friend and I used to meet in TN all the time, rent cabins for a week or two. I grew up that way, Ginny had never gone rustic, what a hoot! Rustic to me isn't a housekeeping cabin with a microwave but we had to compromise! She was a California gal totally used to all the conveniences!
