If you see a Wolf on the West Coast, and you are not in the N. Cascades of Washington, then you are seeing an escapee from some home which is illegally holding endangered species.

However, since humans have been recorded attacking small children, and like humans wolves are animals and therefore motivated by various needs including hunger, you wouldn't want to leave your toddler go off on a solitary backpack through the Nicolet, for example.
Wolf hybrids (esp as pets) are another entire issue.
Numerous cases of attacks by family "pets" on children and adults.

"SASKATOON -- A renowned carnivore expert believes Kenton Carnegie most likely was killed in northern Saskatchewan by a black bear, not a pack of wolves.
"The preponderance of evidence points to black bear," Paul Paquet testified Wednesday during a coroner's inquest into the 22-year-old engineering student's death.
Paquet said the way Carnegie was attacked, eaten and dragged through the bush suggests a bear was responsible."
Nobody knows for sure what killed Carnegie; best guess is he was killed by a bear and scavenged by a wolf or wolves.
I live in Milwaukee and we definitely don't have wolves here in the city, but to my surprise I have seen quite a few coyotes, possums, raccoons, and foxes down on the Far South Side. 2 weeks ago, I had a couple of coyotes run right out in front of me on 794 near the airport.

There was a Bear on 100th street back in 2000, or maybe 2001.
i'd like to know--where were those "cougars" back in the day when I used to go out "hunting" ??
