Hello again,

My question got deleted because I asked it in 12 state forums, not realizing that is not allowed. I’m new to citydata and didn’t mean to rub anyone the wrong way. My husband and I have narrowed our search to twelve states, not just one as of yet, and were hoping info from this forum would help us further narrow things down. We plan on going on a cross-country trip this summer to get the feel for the places we are interested in.

That said, I’m reposting my question (though not to 12 state forums at once!), with a couple alterations. If you responded previously, please respond again as your information got deleted before I was able to save any of it. Here goes.

My husband and I are organic farmers looking for the right place to land. We are searching for an area with:

Good soil where we can buy 60 to 100 acres for under 300,000.
Zoning that would allow us to build 5 to 10 modest, green-built family homes on the one piece of land (we want to farm and live on the land with multiple families).
Strong markets for organic produce.
Close to a town of 7,000 or more people, with a library, a café.
Vibrant community with lots of opportunities for children (ie sports, music, dance, art, etc.).
Waldorf or other charter type schools or home-schooling groups.
We prefer to be among people who are politically liberal/ progressive as well as tolerant minded (not racist, sexist, etc.).

Thanks!

I think I answered before. I'm not sure on land prices, but I'd say to look at a map and draw a line from LaCrosse to Black River Falls straight down to Beloit and look in that southwestern part of the state. Beautiful land and good people over that way.
