HOWEVER, that comes with a price-- and yeah there are times that I think-- I SHOULD be getting paid more for this due to the amount of stress, travel, responsibility that I have. My job has morphed from the one I originally accepted.

I have a friend who doesn't quite get it. Her point of reference is very different. She has never made more than 50k at her highest point. On one hand she doesn't see why I get paid what I do-- but then she will turn around and ask why in the world am I going to travel again, why am I this stressed etc.

She just has no concept. So her perception of my income seems like nothing to complain about even though she does at times recognize that it is not very fun to live in airports and hotels.

I am not complaining that I don't have the money I need. I think what happens is it doesn't matter how much you make, what you have is a lot of people that can't live within their means. I have a co-worker that worked 6 12 hour shifts at 2 hospitals. He did that for 2 years and paid cash for a boat that he now lives on. During the time he was saving for the boat he lived a simple life, rented a room and stuck the money away. The guy was bringing in $150,000 a year easy. That is the exception though.

Many of my co-workers spend it as fast as it comes in. They have a $700 car payment, $3,000 house payment, $30,000 in credit card debt, living in debt and wishing that they were making more money. They take trips all over the world and live the life of the rich allthough they are far from it.

Where I am from making $100,000 a year is not a big deal. I have co-workers making $200,000 a year. I have one co-worker that makes $120,000 and his wife makes $110,000 at another hospital. That specific couple has infact paid off their home. They have paid off a second home. They sent their 2 kids to school and paid cash for that. Their daughter now has a job working at a hospital doing the same thing that her dad and mom do. They pay cash for their cars and keep them for years. I remember in 2000 when the market fell and we were talking at lunch about how much we had lost. This guy's 403B had dropped by over $200,000. Still back then he had another $2,000,000 in it so he was good. By now it is probably up to $3,000,000.

The truth is that you don't even need to make $100,000 to save for retirement or get rich. You do need to set money aside though and put the time in to have that money grow. It is all about choice and what kind of life you want to live.

I'd like to know what people are doing for a living making more than 70K, and also having a social life. Most people i Know making more are in management and basically live at work. No thanks

If my six figure salary isn't enough for me and I want to earn more it's no one's damned business but mine. There will always be underachievers who hiss and moan at people who do better than they do -it's their problem.

They're the worst kind of snobs -the upside down kind that looks down their noses at their betters.

FWIW, a low six figure salary in a tax hell like NYC is no ticket to the middle class.

Why wouldn't I have a social life? My hours are 8am till 4:30pm. I make over $70,000 a year. I admire those that make $200,000 or more. Maybe they do stay later. My boss comes in at 8:am and stays till 5:30pm. He works in the morning on one or 2 saturdays a month.

I think if I made a fair salary in whichever field I was in (and no matter how much it was), I'd feel more devoted to my employer's success. But when you feel underpaid and ignored, you don't feel much loyalty and are typically looking for the first opportunity out.

People have a right to complain when they aren't being paid what they are worth. If you are paid $80k/yr, but the industry average is $120k/yr, you should absolutely raise hell about it.

According to my latest customized salary report, I'm paid close to $20,000 under the industry average. I'm really not sure how else to handle it with my current employer other than find another job. Got any tips or am I doing the right thing by looking for another job and not bother with my current employer. Feel free to DM me.

I was defending the "higher" wage earners before... justifiably, but let's not bash the "lower" wage earners as having inferior work ethics.

Many low wage earners work over 12 hour days too.
There are many "lower" wage earners who work daytime, evening (or unpaid overtime) and weekend jobs to support their families.

Conversely, there ARE people who earn high salaries and spend more time playing golf instead of being in the office.
Some just delegate work to their underlings who then need to stay late while they themselves, leave for the day.

Different jobs simply have different monetary value but there are hardworking AND lazy people in every salary bracket.
