Hear lately(due in part to fathers day coming up) I've been asked what I am going to do for fathewrs day? I usually say--"buy my dad merchadise related to tennis and photography(his hobbies)"
I usually get" "oh, you mean, you don't have children?"
Than I say: "Nope, I sure don't" (immediately, I hear STOP THE PRSSES......and all eyes on me......)
Them: Are you going to have any?
I know this question has been asked in the Relationships forum but I said AT WORK because, I need to be civil. ;0)
Give me good replies........I'm running out of replies. I need a standard reply.

Judging from the response of your coworkers I'm getting the impression you live somewhere in the bible belt. Just a guess, where I live people tend to mind their own business and be less judgmental of others lifestyle.

Oh ok....I see where you're coming from. I miss understood you..........I live in Ohio.
People ask me fairly often if I have kids and when I say "no I don't" there's almost no reaction at all and the conversation continues onto another topic. It's not like there expecting me to say yes or that I plan on having kids or they look at me weird. It's either your coworkers or the culture where you live in Ohio idk, I've never been there so I can't say I know what people tend to be like over there. I personally don't give a rats behind whether someone approves of my choices .
If they say why not, just tell them the truth, for me it's that I don't want any kids, end of discussion.
Dear Abby's advice for answering this type of question was always .... "Why do you ask?" It turns the spotlight back on them and makes them very uncomfortable for asking something that is none of their business.
I don't think they mean anything by it. Maybe just say "No, how about you?" I bet they will then go on about their kids and you can just say, "That's great. You sound like a proud momma." Then smile and go on with your day.
