I have been temping at a company in Philly for the past month....while doing so I have been staying with my sister and her family. My wife and kids are still living in MD. I travel to Philly on Sunday night and return to MD on Friday.

I grew up in Philly and still have all my friends and family there. We have only been in MD for 8 years and really have no connections here.

The company I have been temping for offered me perm position beginnig Aug 1st. This would allow me to relocate back and possibly purchase a house in Philly.

I also have just recently received an offer from a company in MD paying 20K more than the perm position will pay in Philly. Philly company got me as much $ as they could for the position I would be in. The catch is I would go in as a temp for a month or so then transition into a term employee.

The extra 20K is tempting but I am not sure I like to the term piece of the equation. I am afraid that at the end of the term I will be right back to where I was for the last 2 months....unemployed. There is the possibility they will hire me perm after the term ends but no guarantees.

Take a little bit of security and better benefits with the perm or take the money and see what happens in 16 months? The term scares me as bit.

Suggestions?

take the perm. Companies are slow reluctant to make temps permanent. I would definitely never relocate for a temp job.

Even if you didn't have a wife and children to think of, the permanent position seems like a much better proposition. The job market is unlikely to be any better 16 months from now ...

Had trouble following: the perm job is in Philly? the temp to possible perm is in MD? I'd relo to Philly--especially if I had family/friends there.
