I used to work at big company for 13 years, lets call this company A. I left that company A, 8 months ago. I wanted to make more money. I came to small company, lets call this company B. Company B is good, it's very small company, lot of pressure. But it's OK.
I still have few friends at company A, they need someone urgently with my experience. I already applied for the job, I think I am going to get the job offer.
vacation--5 weeks____________________3 weeks
Salary--100K________________________110K
Bonus -- 10%_______________________ no Bonus
work on weekends-- sometime__________no
Company_A is very big, they have all the latest technology but I will not have access to use it. But Company B is small, also has latest technology but I can use what ever I want. There are no restrictions.
In terms of learning, I will learn more in company-B. But I have to do this on my own time, now I try to do this at nights and weekends to learn new things.
I like both companies, but I really like the five weeks vacation that company A gives. Company B is so kind to me, they are in the process of moving to next building in few months. They need every one's help, not sure if they accept if I tell them I found another job. I am so confused.
I would stick with company B. You're looking at the right now, and not the long term. Company B, while small, seems to offer you a means to make your future a lot better than you would get at Company A.
Three weeks vacation + access to use what you want/need + allowed to teach yourself new things + small company where you can stand out = bright, bright future ahead!
OR
Five weeks vacation + a little more money right now + you know them + big company where you can melt in to the background = Comfortable never gets you ahead.
Company B offers you a chance to shine and excel in the future and make a good name for yourself. Company A is probably a fine place to work, too, but it may be harder to build an outstanding career there.
Also, there could be some negative blowback if you leave Company B only to return to Company A after only a year. This could be see as being a "job hopper" even if that is not your intent. In some industries, this is a big deal, while in others, nobody really cares - that's something you'd have to evaluate on your own.
Finally, I assume Company B is doing well from a business perspective. If your current company (A or B) was in a death spiral, I'd recommend getting out regardless of how nice the place used to be. It's never good being the last one left behind to "turn out the lights."
Thank you so much for your advice. I also think it's better to stay at company B, I know it's more pressure on me but I think I can take it.
Just one more question, how should I turn the company A down ? I need to send them email. I don't want to burn any bridges.
