When I was let go from my previous job, I was told they would only reveal that I was terminated and nothing more. Now I'm not sure what to tell a new employer, obviously wanting to put it in the lightest way possible. With that can I say I was voluntarily trminated, resigned/left the company or was laid off? Or any other suggestions?
If the previous company has already told you that they plan on divulging you were terminated then it wouldn't be prudent to come up with untrue alternatives. Presumably you know why you were terminated. If it was for your inability to do the job expected of you then be prepared to say so and give a reason why. Maybe the job was just too much for you and you got in over your head; maybe it was in the wrong field generally. You have to prepare yourself for the "why" question and come up with something plausible. Of course if you embezzled from the company and got six months in the clink then that's something completely different ...
It wasn't for anything as bad or extreme like those that you mentioned. Is there any conflict with "termination" and just saying I was laid off or left to pursue a business?

But you weren't laid off--you were fired. You can probably BS your way through an interview with a company that doesn't conduct background checks, but any company that actually checks up on your resume will find that you are being deceitful.
I agree - since your old company has already TOLD you that they WILL tell future employers that you were terminated (lots of companies won't reveal this information) - then it's going to be really hard for you to make up a story about it.
If you say you retired or moved on - and the future employer calls your old employer and they go "Nope; she was fired"; then your story is screwed.
Be prepared to be creative in answering to why you left your last position.
Turn the negative into a positive, and show to your potential new employer how you learned from the past experiences. (I know.. easier said than done, right)
Your last employer is going to say, "Yes.. Joe Schmoe worked here from <date> - <date> and he was terminated.. not eligible for rehire"... etc.. etc.. that will probably be all they say
