SO DO YOU HAVE A COPY OF THE CONTRACT?
I am definitely a contractor. No, I don't have a copy of the contract, but I did read (skimmed) one that they had the last person sign. And it's probably the same one that I will sign next week. It spells out all their rights (and makes it clear you have few if any). I doubt they would be keen to adjust their payment schedule but I am going to ask for AT LEAST twice monthly payments. Let's see what happens.

Great, thank you. I will check them out. In all likelihood I am going to have to find something to bring in some quick cash. The current job leaves some extra time per week where I could be picking up other small jobs. I should know more this coming week how the timing of the first payment is going to play out. I think I 'already' know (long wait to first check). But what I don't know is whether they would be willing to make an exception here and there or otherwise speed things up. Being new, I can't rock the boat too much.

My 1099 employer paid me at the beginning of each quarter for that quarter's work. We had already had a relationship so they knew I wasn't going to rip them off. Maybe you can work something out with them.
