I know there is a shortage of male teachers, especially outside of Highschool. I recently got an email about the TNTP fellowship progam for teaching at inner city schools. I was considering it and was wondering if it was relatively easy for a male to get a teaching job because of how few men go into it?

Male elementary teachers, at least from my experience, certainly come into interviews having an advantage. However, given the number of layoffs and other staff reductions at most schools education has become an incredibly competitive field.

If your areas of studies are science or math, you have a better chance at getting a teaching job in a school, than if it is in English / Social science. I would check out the job markets in the local areas first and or talk to teachers who already have these jobs to get a better idea.

If they need you and they like you, they will hire you regardless of gender.

There are other teaching programs out there aside from TNTP so I would advise you to apply to as many of them as possible, since some of them are highly competitive.

Very easy at elementary school. Plus, the men in my elementary school were clearly favored by the principal (also male).

I think the hardest thing to hire right now is overly attractive female teachers for middle and high school positions. They cant seem to keep from banging their pupils and school districts are trying to limit exposure / liability
