One of the reasons why I don't trade in cars until they fall apart, besides the financial aspect (which is the main reason), is that I can't stand dealing with car salesmen. When I'm sitting at the table in the dealership, I know that the man in the suit sitting across from me is a sociopath whose job it is to con me into paying more than I need to. I hate having to haggle, threatening to walk out of the dealership multiple times until I get him to come down on the price. I bought a Kia a couple of years ago for $16k. I was originally quoted $21k and I had to play games with this weasel for over an hour to get him to come down to the price I was willing to pay (and what the car was worth).

It is a very painful experience and I wish you could buy a car the same way you buy any other object in a store. Simply show the sales price and that is what you pay, just like buying a television or a microwave. No haggling, no pain.

That's basically what I did when I bought a car in 2009. I did research on what people were paying got quotes from several dealers and got the lowest one. No BS. I went to one dealer and they were trying to convince me that the radio was extra part of a popular electronics package.

I also paid cash as often times the finance person is the biggest crooks on the car lot. The banks screwed arround with me so much (it was early 2009 during the financial crises) trying to bail themselves out by gouging me despite a near perfect credit record that I didn't want to pay them a dime and yanked my all money out of the bank and put it into a credit union.
