I'm sort of randomly thinking outloud here, but I had a former employer who "stole" thousands in SPIFF money from it's sales staff.
For those who aren't familiar with what a SPIFF is: Some products don't have much profit margin. We were paid commission based on a margin of the profit we sold. Manufacturers knew this and they offer straigh up cash bonuses for selling their product over a competitors. Example: Sell this widget which only has a 1% profit margin and we'll pay you $10 per widget you sell.
Well one of the manufacturers would send one big check to our employer for the spiff money that our sales reps earned and because they were too lazy to track and redistribut the money they just pocketed it and called it "marketing funds".
In the interview they specifically proposed that we get to keep 100% of all SPIFF money.
I don't work there anymore, about a year removed....is there any way to get that money? They probably owe me like $2,000 in SPIFFS.
