Companies do what is best for them, not the employee. They won't hesitate to let you go without notice, but you as the employee are required to give them plenty. Its a crock....anyways in this economic environment its dog eat dog so always do whats best for yourself. Your employer certainly will, so any talk that you'll be given heads up about being dismissed is garbage.
Agreed, still think this could be the new "way" around here. Thanks for helping me let go of my dissapointment with them.

New around DC? It's the American capital of dishonesty and corruption. Only Wallstreet in NYC comes close. It's the status quo for DC with all the politicians, lobbyists, and corporate honchos. There is an old joke. How can you tell when a politician isn't lying? When their mouth is closed.
I would be shocked if lies weren't being told in DC by the corporate bigwigs, lobbyists, and politicians. I am a realist.
Are MD/VA at will states? If so, you would need to get such statements from management in writing as a contract and signed by both parties before they really mean anything
When I lived in VA, I was treated badly as a job applicant. (I don't mean to make it seem like the problem is only in VA, but that's where it happened on several occasions.)
I had an interview early one morning and as I was literally only about 2 miles from the location, my phone beeped that I got a voice mail. It was the employer telling me that they "decided to do something different". Really? You waited to tell me as I'm driving to the interview? And when was the decision made? I took time off my regular to make that interview.
I also was told by another employer on a Wednesday that I was one of two people they chose. He would call me with the decision the next day. No call. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, thinking he got busy with something else. On Friday I called and had to leave a message. He emailed me later telling me that they did more interviews and I wasn't chosen. Sooooo . . . why did you tell me that I was one of two, rather than tell me that more interviews were going to take place?
I don't understand the whole need to lie in the first place. Rather than lie, why not keep quiet?
What's interesting is if you have one mistake on your resume or application, they will think you are lieing or trying to hide something. And I love the job listings that have errors, but they want someone who knows the chemical and physical makeup of the moon's surface for a $6 an hour admin job.
