Oh, the tales of applying for jobs...

I applied with a global commercial insurance company, for an extremely well-fitting position, and I was told yesterday (a good 15 days from applying) that they had chosen to fill the job with an internal candidate, but they have offices in these two other cities and where am I applying?

I specified that I am capable of relocating, to which the recruiter for the company replied - and btw, she called me by the wrong name in the first email and had a lot of grammatical errors also...yes, the best of the best only for this company - that she had forwarded my resume to the hiring manager at one of the locations but that my salary range was high.

Hmmm...$35K is what I made in 2004 and unfortunately still in 2010-2012. Global company and I have 10+ years of extensive experience but $35K is too high for a specialized skill set?

Then, the clincher - she added that if I had any questions, to call her in the interim. I replied that I'd like a brief chance to talk, and if she could let me know when would be convenient. Her answer? "I'll reach out to you when I have a role. I have to sort this out. Thank you for your patience."

Ugh.

When will people realize that recruiters will say anything to get you off the phone.

They may lie. They may lead you on. They can be rude. They may waste your time. They may do what they have to do to protect themselves and to some extent those that they work for.

I know that in trying times we all try to hold on to the hope that "this company is the one" but Move On. Don't try to make any sense out of it. They have already ruled you out based on salary. There are dozens of other insurance companies to work for. Go apply for them. But move on for now from this company...

It sounds to me that she is not giving you any specific times on when she will get back to you. It's not a good sign. I would continue job hunting. When they are interested, they will provide specifics to you on the "next steps".
