BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A group of Virginia researchers said their study indicates hotel guests prefer workers at their accommodations to be clean-shaven.

The study, titled "The Frontline Provider's Appearance: A Driver of Guest Perceptions" and published in the November 2013 issue of Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, said the authors, which included researchers from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University, asked a panel of 102 people to judge hotel workers based on their photographs.

Interesting find. I work in the hotel business and have a mustache and goatee, And have been continuously reviewed with very positive comments over the years thankfully. A beard covers part of the face and is said to act as a bit of a mask and psychologically may make others feel you are hiding something. However were these workers fully bearded or had a close cut form of facial hair? A neatly trimmed beard or goatee is usually okay unless the hotels dress and grooming code is very rigid like in the Ritz-Carlton or similar hotels.

I like this post OP. Caught my eye immediately.

Interesting.

"participants said the clean-shaven Caucasian men projected more trust and confidence than bearded Caucasian men. Facial hair did not appear to be a factor with men of other races"

So beards only mattered with white men. That seems odd. Of course with only 102 people being surveyed and not knowing the exact stats (was it 51% - 49% or 95% - 5%) it seems kind of random.

I prefer hot looking women to fat balding sweating audibly breathing men.

I bet those Virginia researchers must've been frightened when they saw a picture of Abraham Lincoln in the presidential history books.
Ironically, President Lincoln grew his beard out because children were frightened of his clean shaven look.
True story!
