Another thread inspired me to start this poll about what days your employer is closed for Christmas and New Years this year. I'm intending this poll for employees in the US who are working a traditional Mon-Fri job. I'm not intending it for teachers (who always get a long break for Christmas), or for jobs that don't follow a traditional schedule (such as retail, or 24/7/365 jobs such as healthcare).

In the poll, select all days that your employer is closed this year. Choose "Other" if they are also closed another day that is not listed, such as Friday, Dec. 20 (unlikely). Post here if you have anything interesting to say or if you chose "Other".

To answer for myself: my employer always closes between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, inclusive. We get paid holidays for 4 of those days (this year, they are Dec. 25, 26, 27, and Jan. 1). We have to use vacation time for the other 2 days (this year, they are Dec. 30 and 31). For the purposes of the poll, I will count all 6 of those days as being days off (since I think of Dec. 30 and 31 as de facto holidays, and I think of having 2 fewer vacation days, since that's basically how those days work).

Don't answer as part of the poll, but post here: do you plan to take any extra days off? I always take off Dec. 24 and Jan. 2, and will do so this year. But this year, that results in 2 isolated workdays (Monday, Dec. 23, and Friday, Jan. 3), so I'm not sure yet if I plan to take those off or not. I'm not sure I'm comfortable being out of the office for 2 full weeks, nor am I sure that I want to burn 6 vacation days.

We are shutdown Christmas through New Years. Working in sales though, I will still need to work to bring in a few last minute orders.

12/25 and 1/1, but often people leave early on 12/24 and 12/31. Though we are a law firm and often have matters that need to be completed before year end.

We have Christmas, the day after, and New Year's Day as paid holidays. In addition I am taking PTO on Friday December 27th for a 5 day weekend. We almost all skip out early on New Year's Eve and no one complains about it.

Christmas day and New Year's day. And those are just observed holidays. Some of us actually have to still be at work. They tend to limit the PTO used around the holidays otherwise everyone would ask for it off.

I am doing a full-time internship right now for grad school and my school is kind enough to give me two weeks off (Dec. 23 - Jan. 3). However my clinic is only closed on Christmas Day and New Year's and closes at 1:00 on Christmas Eve and 3:00 on New Year's eve. So, if I were a paid employee like everyone else there, that would be my schedule.

Officially closed only on the 25th and the 1st. However, with the generous vacation policy, most just stay home most of December.

I am the employer and will shut down the businesses from the 21st through January 1st, with the rest of New Years week only optional if important business comes in. It will be nice to get away from work completely for a week and a half minimum, and everyone can spend time with their families or enjoy other leisurely pursuits. I pay everyone for the time we are closed by my choice. They can keep their vacation time for their choosing.
