I've had a pretty good job in a location that some people would label "shady" and "so ghetto." According to my former boss there, it used to be that way until the city did some work in that neighborhood to make it safer. It doesn't look like the latest downtown area with all modern buildings, but I was happy there since I enjoyed working with everyone.

The employees in the buildings close to my job were very nice as well, and knowing them helped me get through any difficulties I faced.

Sometimes you don't know what you will personally think of the area until you have spent time working there. You might notice a lot of areas that need quite a bit of work and upgrades, but you may not go through all of those areas every day because you usually stay in one place for work, and then leave that place to go home once you're done.

I've told friends at school about a job in that area, but after hearing enough rumors, they didn't even apply for the opening.

The pay was slightly lower than what it would have been at another company, but I had pretty good benefits, a flexible schedule, and supervisors/managers who weren't as strict as other places. If I needed time off for something or needed to start work a little later or get off work a little early, they worked with me on that. Other places would need a notice several weeks in advance.

I think another thing I would consider is where I want to eventually end up. For example, if I wanted to go work next to Disneyland, but the job was in Compton, I might look at my long-term plans and see if that temporary location was worth it to have better chances of going to Anaheim.

It depends on a lot of factors. My current job not in the nicest area due to the homeless population, and the area has a lot of trash around (ie: chip bags, random clothes, shoes, etc) At night when I leave they are all hanging out on the street there. They might be the nicest people, but when i walk to my car I feel slightly uncomfortable, because there is well a group of them and just one of me.

I've got asked a few times for money and/or food. This area though I know they truly are. I've given people my lunch, breakfast, snack, etc. It's just one meal for me (besides i could always order in) and it could be the only meal for them for the entire ady.

However, when I got the job I was laid off, and I needed work. I've been there for 2 1/2 years, but my last day is next Friday as I am relocating back to CT! My hubby got a job.. so would I take a job again in a bad area? Depends. Homeless - sure possibly. Crime - not as much.

I understand horrible location is subjective, but what if you had an awesome job lined up that was in a horrible location, would you take it or leave it?
it depends on the cost of transportation and how long the commute is which is two factors in any job I accept.

If the salary is worth the commute then the answer is obvious
