Throughout my career the different employers I've worked for have sent emails on the day before a holiday weekend saying "office is closing at 2pm today. enjoy the holiday!". My issue is not everyone in the office works a standard 9-5 schedule, (some people work 7-3 or 10-6 etc.) so leaving at 2pm is more beneficial to some employees than others. Some people get a half day while others are still working a 6-7 hour day. Everyone is salary so everyone is still getting a full day's pay.

That's why I come in as late as possible the day before a holiday weekend
Complaints like this are why companies don't allow early closures for holidays anymore. Because someone complained they only got to leave 1 hour or 2 hours early when someone else left 4 hours early, everyone now has to work their entire shift. So thank you, because we all know how everyone wants to stay till close on Christmas Eve.

Ain't that the truth!
Like my dad used to tell me when I would complain that something wasn't fair.... "The fair comes in September and it's 5 bucks to get in".

And so what? Everyone is getting a full day's pay for less than a full day's work. Some make out better than others. Big deal. This complaint is on par with, "he got a bigger piece of cake than me!"

You should only worry about your own schedule, and not those of others. In the end, it's just not worth it. As others have already mentioned, complaints like these tend to lead to policy changes that don't really benefit anyone. In other words, say good-bye to the early release policy on days before holidays.

And that's why, when my sons were growing up, we let one of them cut the cake and the other got first choice of which piece he wanted. You never saw anyone take so long to cut two slices of cake before.
