I was shopping today and guess what I saw? Several dozen of workers putting out stock, cleaning floors and shelves while dressed up like an investment banker. I looked at one employee in the eye and saw his eyes droop down, almost as if embarrassed to be seen in broad daylight. Maybe soon in this world we'll have public toilet cleaners wearing suits too?

You're figuring that person is embarrassed because they have to wear a suit? I imagine they are embarrassed because they realized they would like to be in that suit doing some other job.
OP just doesn't know the difference between Dickies and a collared shirt and what investment bankers wear. I've never seen a Tesco floor employee wearing even business casual. Tesco is basically a minimally less trashy version of Walmart for y'all who have never been to Europe. They operate here as Fresh & Easy, which flopped because it was neither. Fresh & Easy is more like a stupid version of Trader Joe's though with a terrible name.

There is nothing wrong with a cleaner wearing a suit, and nothing wrong with a manager doing some dirty work. They should experience how the rest of the world works for a change.

Hmm, interesting point. It's possible that dressing nicely encourages employees to behave more professionally, to have more self-respect, and encourages customers to treat them more respectfully.
Years ago there was a news story about a taxi service in Japan that had its drivers dress up in fancy uniforms. The other taxi companies laughed at them and called them clowns (or some Japanese equivalent). But customers liked it, and this company became quite successful. The competitors stopped laughing and had their drivers start dressing up as well.
I enjoy wearing jeans or shorts to work when allowed, but I can see both sides. Once, when I was working for a small start-up in the late 90s (ah the good old days!) they invited some investors to pay a visit, and asked us all to dress up, so we guys showed up in ties and jackets and the ladies wore beautiful dresses. Not so bad once in a while!
