Ridiculous. This person has way too much time on her hands and rather odd priorities on how to spend it. I'm surprised that her employer would allow such a thing.
On the contrary, it's a contest being held within the company and when they saw what she had done, they extended the deadline by two days so others could try and compete. They also decided to give a tour of it to guests staying at the hotel.
They must have some kind of anti-Bah Humbug policy in place.
I remember when a simple candle or wreath seemed appropriate but these folks really had fun with the competition. And since it is a hospitality business it only seems fitting. There are some businesses which don't even allow personal photos on desks much less an extreme decorating contest like this.
Wonder if she did all that on company time or her own personal time.
The article said that she planned and assembled everything over the course of a month at a secondary location and then came in secretly over the weekend to set it up.

It's been reported elsewhere that the employee's husband assisted by assembling the cabin in their garage, then taking it apart. The couple then took the components to work and put it back together.
Very creative, charming, and clever. For those questioning this project, it was all done at home, other than the final assembly - and it's brought great publicity and awareness to the company. Well-done all around!
How long does it take to build something like that?

Didn't even bother reading it because it's just another example of how this holiday has now become an insane 3 months long commercialized ordeal whose time is long past.

Now you know why you call customer service, try to get a repair person out, or whatever, you are on hold for an hour and nothing gets done. I remember how it was in the State offices in a city in Vermont and how around this time the state employees spent most of their day playing games with xmas decorating, parties, birthday parties etc etc., it's no wonder when you called them for state services you either didn't get through or you were on hold forever.
The same people would throw away perfectly good office equipment, desks, chairs, staplers etc when they wanted to get new ones.
