Just came across a salary topic ranking good/very good/amazing levels and wondered:

Those who have been making six figures salary, when/what age did you hit this milestone?

Those who have NOT, when do you think/hope to make it a reality?

Barring any discrepancies among locations, career fields, and etc...just salary as a whole.

I started making 6 figures when I was 32. Now turning 34.

Im 32 with a college degree and nowhere CLOSE to making 6 figures. Chances are I will never hit the 6 figure milestone unless I find a lucrative entrepreneur route to take or get land on a lucky star and manage a great upper management job. . Its rare to make 6 figures working for someone else. Of course, living in the south its more difficult to make good money as they still have that CHEAP mentality down here. Even people who have been in my business for 2-3 decades aren't coming close to making 6 figures.

A big problem is, the higher up the chain you go in the private sector , the less job openings and opportunities there are an as a result, you have hundreds of people backstabbing each other and clamoring for ONE position

You're lucky. Companies aren't exactly handing out 6 figure jobs like candy today. They find they can use the lower rung guys to pick up the slack for much less money

I had a Masters degree and close to 50 post Masters degree credits with 33 years of experience when I retired and I was nowhere near a six figure income. BTW, I was also working a 60 to 70 hour week. Of course, those are the joys of being a special education teacher.

Incidentally, while the work load has not decreased overall salaries, at least in my area, have gone down since I retired a few years ago.

Ha, I'm 32, making half that....I don't see that happening for many many years and even then I'd probably have to switch companies at least one or two times to bump up my pay.
