I have one special AOL email for Job Hunting, and looking through it today, I noticed there are hardly anymore Job Fairs around Chicago. Maybe are Job Fairs out of style, - is the word passe'?

I kinda take this as a sign that the Jobs economy is weak, otherwise. Or else people have been burned going to Job Fairs in the past and they were just nonsense / collecting resumes / please apply online / we're just showcasing our company or school...

What have you observed?

It might be the job market in your city? We hear about them here locally at least once a month

Not a weak economy, a changed environment and norm to applying for jobs. Why would a company want to send a couple of employees to stand around a fair collecting resumes, when those same applicants and more can simply apply for the positions online?

It is a waste of time and money for both the candidates and companies. I went to a science specific one once and even that was HR reps handing out pens and water bottles and telling people to apply online. No wonder they are being reduced.

I'd think it's a bit early...Here they start in April, and slack off around October

I've never been to a job fair that was worth my time. It was wasted time getting ready and then handing out resumes to people who weren't hiring or handing them to agencies who promised things but just wanted me to pad their stats.

The company I work for (healthcare) has some regular job fairs. We also represent ourselves at larger job fairs. The school I used to work at held job fairs. So they're definitely still happening, but I don't know if they're advertised a lot.

I've never been to one, myself.

Exactly. Why even have a job fair if you have to apply on online? Most of the jobs aren't that good anyways. I don't really understand why they aren't used more often. You can't tell a candidate's personality or chemistry from a job application. It seems like a great way to judge personality and chemistry for 100's of people a day. I do know they are popular on college campuses though.
