I have noticed that the people that make the company their whole life get upset when the rest of us don't. I work to live - not live to work.
Because it highlights their foolishness. If you can make about the same amount of money without caring nearly as much then what does that say about them?

True. I feel like sometimes I get " looks" for leaving on time. When I'm done - I'm done.

I haven't noticed this. As long as someone is pulling their weight, it's been my experience that people don't care. When I've seen people get upset is when someone leaves "on time" and the person is a slacker. Not saying that's the case with the OP.

I'm speaking in regards to places I have worked. I'm no slacker but I'm no slave to work after my shift
with no job security everyone is paranoid about their positions today and they think they have to live at work to avoid the chop block when in reality when their job is finally deemed "non-essential" you're gone. Doesn't matter if you work 40 or 100 hours a week. Thats why there is NO POINT in working coal miner hours in today's corporate because no one gives a rat's behind anyways. You're just a number today. You aren't even human. You're LESS than human

Everyone is different. Some enjoy what they do, and pour their life into it. Others are simply there to collect a paycheck. To an extent, we also are "programmed" to certain characteristics. Some are clock watchers or correlate productivity/reliability to face time. While others are more about the results, regardless of how much time you've spent.
Of course, these characteristics can often clash.
This is why I believe "fit" is such an important factor. People will always say the only thing that should count is if you can do the job. That is certainly an important factor, but it's also very obvious that the environment impacts how productive you are.
