My current supervisor was appointed to the position about 2 months ago. He has no clue what anyone on our team really does or what our relationships with customers is like. I received a really nice e-mail from a customer thanking me for helping them solve an urgent issue. What is the appropriate way to share with my current manager? He will be completing our reviews soon & I want him to know that I do go above & beyond to help the customers.

Type up a set of problem-solution-impact bullets to cover your performance for the year and include the letter as an example. Most bosses expect employees to provide memory joggers at appraisal time.

That depends on how your reviews are handled. In our case, both the manager and worker have the opportunity to make comments on the success in meeting their goals set for that year in January. If one of those was customer service, I would refer to the letter. Often the manager will not be aware of this kind of feedback, nor even the cases where you have saved the company money by finding and fixing a problem, so sometimes you just have to tell them. perhaps an email something like "With my upcoming performance review, I wanted to make you aware of the following:

1.
2.
3."

I was just doing some performance reviews and ours actually have a place to attach files so that supporting documents can be included.
