I've worked on Christmas in the past, as a jewelry store owner and firefighter, but not in the last 15 years or so.

I have great respect for those that do work holidays, especially in service to other's health and protection. Thanks!

My son is a firefighter and for the past several years, the schedule fell in his favor. Not so this year, he had to work 25th/26th. His job requires him to be at his duty station for 48 hours.

Tomorrow will be Christmas in his house.

Did you ever think that people travel on Christmas? Cars smash and crash....What the hospitals should tell them "Sorry, can't help you today"

I get it for travel.. i can see a uptick in travel wrecks.. just concept is that most people are home on the holidays but the select few. So just baffles me on how busy the ER room is during the holiday from small stupid sh.. to major head trama from falling off a roof. I worked as a medic for few years, and had to work a 24hr shift on xmas day.. honestly we did maybe like 2 calls and it was our typical customers feeling lonely. Population 45k.. so guess just one of those fluke days.. because next day later, they manage 20 calls in a 24 hour period. So nobody got any rest on that shift.

I would say 70% of our ER was full of patients that didn't need to be there.

I never have, not one time in nearly 55 years of working.

But people do and I tip really well on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Four years ago we were traveling and stopped at a Steak & Shake around 8:00 for a quick hamburger and fries. I tipped the waitress $50.

Ordered pizza for the family this year Christmas eve and when I picked it up I gave the crew a $16 tip which was all the loose cash I had on me.

It is not a lot but we can all afford to be super generous just once a year.

Before I turned 21 I worked 70-hour weeks during the Christmas season and worked right up until mall closing on the holidays.

My job was manager of the entire Christmas Wonderland of a large mall with multiple Santas and lots of elves who photographed children with Santa.

Christmas is an important celebration for me; therefore, working long hours throughout the holidays and being utterly exhausted on Christmas Eve and the last to go home is not something I would ever do again.

Worked Xmas for time and a half. Very mellow.

Work as a Supervisor in a program for those formerly institutionalized and are now in transition

Worked about 65% of the shift, on call for 35% of the shift which was spent asleep- 18 hr shift

I have stopped working on Christmas Day, due to my religious observance. I take off Good Friday and Easter Sunday as well, as per my religious observance. If the other religions can have it their way, so can I. Just a protected right people do not use enough.
