So OP you think temp means he's a grunt and you get to treat like a dishrag?

Temp means just that a temporary worker. He is not subject to the same rules that a perm worker would be subject to like not taking a vacation for like 9 mo. when first starting and accumulating 1/2 day of vacation a pay period or whatever. Here's the clincher though -- to you and the other sour puss:

YOU GET PAID WHILE ON VACATION. HE DOES NOT GET PAID for time off. At least not 2 weeks paid time.

For what its worth, back when I was a temp some other temp did get pre-approved vacation before they offered the job, and took one like a month after starting. Not that I think it would be weird to take a week of if a temp after just starting w/o pre-approved. He's a temp. Is he going to be around 9 mo. from now when you think he is supposed to take vacation? You use a temp catch as catch can. He is paid hourly not salary after all. If you need a perm spot to fill a void make the case to mgt as to why a temp don't cut it.

Who does the temp actually work for?

Answer: The temp agency. The vacation would have been scheduled with his/her employer.

Again it is none of the OP's business, but every office has one of those nosy people that always goes around sticking their nose where it does not belong, looking to get someone in trouble.

The temp can only get his own self in trouble by missing more days

No it would be a waste of two months after being trained and then being told not to return.

If the temp doesn't work, the temp doesn't get paid. It shouldn't matter to coworkers what a temp does on their own time.

Does this sound weird to anyone else?
Things like this are arranged all of the time. You work for one of the better companies.

Exactly. It is also worth noting that many temp agencies DO allow their employees to accrue PTO after working a certain number of hours. I am not sure how the rate of pay is calculated, as the employee may have had multiple assignments with different pay scales, but it does happen. It should go without saying that part of working as a temp means, of necessity, letting the temp agency know when you will and will not be available for work, and the temp agency WILL share that information with its clients when sending a temp to a new assignment.

OP, MYOB. This is not your concern. It is between the temp, the temp agency, and the person within your organization who selects and supervises the temps.
