Not unless they agree to it, or they get a judgement against them ordering it.

Hopefully, labor officials can get it out of him. Having to hire an attorney will eat up a lot of your money with no guarantee of success. Good luck on this. I got stiffed by an employer who later went bankrupt. He was an alcoholic narcissist who stiffed everyone in town.

Does the recruitment company have an office? Can you pick up the check in person?
Your clients don't use ATF? It's taken some time but now all of mine do direct deposit.

It's been two months and the recruiter keeps saying that he has mailed my check and giving me the run around. What are my options? I don't want to lose about $20k

Have him resend via direct deposit

I would go with the Wage and Labor board first.

If this is another one of those ****ty recruiters, they won't like the govt sniffing around their business.

Infact, threaten them with going to the Wage and Labor board. If you don't get your dues in a week, then reach out to the board.

Not in the US. You might be confusing this with asking for the defendant to cover your attorney costs in the event you win a lawsuit along with other damages.

I wouldn't threaten, I'd go report it first.

A lawyer letter isn’t necessary. Send the demand yourself and also add that you “reserve all rights to enforce all rights and remedies available under applicable law”.
