Does middle schoolish behavior occur only in certain offices in particular industries

we have been seeing a lot of threads about cruel bosses, and backstabbing co-workers

but are all of you in a particular industry

Is this only occuring in nursing, accounting, law offices, or what?

Heavens, no! There is no single profession that has a corner on the market for immaturity, whining and backbiting; that pervades every workplace in the country.

What makes one work situation different from another is not so much the type of work or profession that is being performed but rather the individuals (both staff and upper management) involved.

If you are in a work situation where the bosses stick their heads in the sand and neither know nor care what's going on with the staff, you're going to have the devil's own time with the immature backstabbers and whiners in the group, because nobody will do anything about them. All you can do is make like a duck and let it roll off your back.

If you're lucky enough to be in a situation where management genuinely cares about the work environment and staff morale (rare, I know, but it does exist in places), those whiners are not likely to be kept around for long. And if they are kept on staff, a good manager will ensure that they do not have the opportunity to poison the environment for the rest of the group.
