I applied for a lot of jobs last month and two of which I really wanted.
One was with the county library system and the other was with a fast food place.

When I applied for the library position (same position, same library, third time) this time I asked to speak with the woman who was listed as the person to contact. I introduced myself, told her I read about the page position and I asked when I would hear something back. She told me around the first week of July. At the time that was two and a half, maybe three weeks away. It is now July 13th and I just received a call about an interview.

I had TWO interviews with the fast food place and figured they just weren't interested. Today I get a call back saying the two people I spoke with on my interviews went out of town, they just got back and are getting back into the swing of things.

What is the longest a company has taken to respond?

It is not too late. I have had companies contacting me 2-3 mths later, so you are still good. You are under serious consideration if they contacted you with that update, but I would still continue to look into other opportunities in the mean time.

Keep looking for jobs. Don't give up until you have a solid offer that you accept, and then they give you a start date.

2-3 weeks is not unusual for even an entry level job. It could easily go into 6 weeks. The higher up the job is in terms of authority and responsibility, the longer it could take. I personally have gone into interviews that were held 4-5 months after the initial job posting, and the offers (or rejections) came another 1-2 months after that.
