If you're talking about the effects of a change in the general economy on the US mainland then probably yes. I live in the US Virgin Islands and the effects of a recession usually take anywhere from 9 months to 18 months to filter down to us.

Actually if you go look at the Hawaii forum, times are really tought there right now, and finding work that pays enough to eat will be nearly impossible.

Hawaii is somewhat closely tied to the economy of other asian countries. ie Japan; because most of their dollars are in tourism. I haven't been back in a while but my understanding is things haven't changed much in the decade since I left. Hawaii will be perputually heavily depedant on a boom economy that brings plenty of people with plenty of money to spend. I never heard the notion that they are 6 months behind the mainland. I dont think world commerce is like fashion in that sense

Hawaii's economy, like that of the Caribbean, is dependent upon tourism and I can assure you that the 6-18 months lag in the economy behind a downfall in the US is a reality and I stand by my short but concise earlier post in this regard.
