something that I really want. While I wouldn't say that I'm unhappy at my new job and don't feel blessed to have it.(even though it's a lot harder than I thought it was going to be)...this job is something where I could use the CDL that I so treasured last summer and it pays 4 dollars an hour more.
Why do I feel bad for even thinking about applying for it? A family member almost read me the riot act for even thinking about leaving this one. I would never leave it unless I was lined up with another opportunity and the pay was at least $2 an hour more.
Feel like I'm jinxing myself. Of course, I believe in loyalty, but what I'm making now is just a little bit surivivable, particulary if I get wages garinished thanks to a stuff happening.
What should I do? Just suck up the lower salary for now and take my chances on living on that?
I used to make almost 21.00 per hour in 2005. Now I make 12.50 (talk about a big ouch). This job that I don't even know if I would get an interview for it would pay 16.50.
But I feel not that good for putting in for it? Should I?
There's no real dilemma in applying. The dilemma would come if you got called for an interview. If you could manage an interview without jeopardizing your current position, then fine. If going on an interview would cause you to miss work time, then you might decide at that point what your best move is.
If you don't at least apply, you may always be left wondering.
Apply for the position and see what happens. If you get an opportunity to interview, most employers will honor a request for an appointment before or after regular office hours. Self-preservation is the name of the game you should be playing in this economy. If you can do better than the job you already have, why not go for it? If the employer could replace you tomorrow for less money he/she/it would do so.
Forget about what everyone is saying when throwing a guilt trip on you. You've said it all in your opening sentence:

So, go for it!!! You don't owe this current employer anything really. You have to look out for yourself. Everyone I know would do the same thing. A job you really want to do plus more $$$? Hey, just do it!
Besides, you don't have the job [yet]. But if you don't apply you'll regret it. Just put your paperwork in and see what happens. Good luck to you!
The only downside is putting a one month job on your resume if you ever decide to leave. But if it is something you really want, and pays that much more, I wouldn't hesistate.
