Why is 101 so famous?
^Btw both Taiwan and Japan carry out executions annually, not just Singapore. Shame on us, I know.
In fact, when someone speaks about death penalty, I think firstly about Indonesia, because they carry out executions for non-violent crimes such as drug-trafficking. A brazilian citizen was fired in January (in my birthday...) and another is in the death row. Although the brazilian law allows death penalty for war crimes, the last brazilian who suffered death penalty was in the 19th century. The media here gave a lot of coverage about the case.
But in the time of the school, a teacher said us that Singapore has the highest rate of executions per capita, and even pickpockets are subject to be executed. I think it's an exaggeration, but it lead me think about death penalty every time I think in Singapore.
About 101... well, it's the "face" of Taipei, like the Tour Eiffel is the "face" of Paris. An enormous and iconic skyscraper looking like a pagoda and dominating the entire skyline of the city, and once the tallest building of the world.

Yeah I've heard. It was awful.

Yeah I think Singapore does have the highest rate of execution per capita. I don't think pickpockets are subjected to execution though, it's usually for drug trafficking and murder.
