I'm fairly new here and I'm somewhat amazed by the "Hate America First" views of a large number of U.S.forum members. I consider myself a fairly well educated and well travel person. The U.S. has problems and the goverment may suck but overall it's still the best thing going.

Just for discussion what if we had open borders on a global scale, any one could any move where they pleased with one catch - you had to be matched with someone wanting to move your country (e.g. Doctor for Doctor, Truck Driver for Driver Truck etc.... ). This would cover any possible skill set drains for a particular nation.

So the Americans who prefer say Canada, the UK, France or Germany could move as long as they had a replacement.

Maybe the world would be a little happier - those who hate our culture and government would get what they wanted and those who want a more "freedom to" as opposed to "freedom from" would get what they are looking for...... Would anyone like to bet on which line would be longer - incoming or out going????

It's already happening really. For every person I know from the UK or Australia I know someone else just getting back or leaving.

RLW366, I'm POSITIVE that the "incoming" line would be a LOT longer than the "outgoing" line. I'm a U.S. citizen and would NEVER give up my blue passport. I'm married to a German woman and, at one time, considered living in Germany (or another EU country). I'm sure we would've enjoyed life over there, but I believe we did better by returning to the U.S. Since I lack any German occupational certification and speak little better than "Gasthaus Deutsch", my employment opportunities are far better here at home. Even in England, trucking (my occupation) is far different than here in the States. NOW...having said that, there's a LOT I miss about Germany. We live in a nice home on a large corner lot. My wife loves doing yard work. I'd have loved to have owned an apartment in Cologne or Berlin with NO yard work. I think we can learn a LOT from Europeans about fine dining, alcohol laws, driving and more, IMHO. So maybe what a lot of Americans wish for is some sort of Utopia where foreign and American cultures mix...

Statements like this are what annoys the rest of the world. It should be stated as your opinion, not as fact. That's why American are painted as arrogant.

I'm much happier and feel more at home in Scotland than I ever did in the US. And I didn't give up my blue passport. I'm a dual citizen.
