I seriously doubt anyone is playing hockey in the Royal Albert Hall.

MSG is also a venue for live music and other concerts.

Coney Island- Southend on Sea?

No way is Big Ben an equivilent of the Empire State Building. In the old days it was the Post Office (BT) Tower. Nowadays it's The Shard.

Wembley Stadium is reserved for National matches and does not have a resident team, so something like Arsenal's Emirates Stadium is better suited.

Some good analogies there though.

Yes...or Brighton, but that's a bit far away. Long Island and Connecticut might also equal the home counties.

I know Big Ben (let's say the tower that holds BB to be precise) and the ESB are different - one is a clock/bells and one is a skyscraper, but they're both vertical and both the most recognisable symbols in their respective skylines.

It's interesting that nearly all the comparisons here with New York City are with the island of Manhattan. I wonder what most of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island would compare to.

Good thread idea on arguably the 2 best cities in the world.

No- I'd still go for Southend on Sea over Brighton.

The reason is that Southend is nearer and a bit brasher- apologies to residents of that town and of Coney Island.

Well most of my London equivalents were in inner London. I guess most of the famous sights in NYC are in Manhattan.

True. Brighton offers a completely different experience to Southend - Southend, as you say, is more brash, a bit harsh around the edges, slightly rundown, whereas Brighton is more 'polished' (I use this term relatively), wealthier and attracts different types of people - Brighton is a tourist destination and a city in its own right - Southend is a day-trip resort that is essentially London overspill.

Are there a lot of amusement parks in Brighton and Southend?
