I'm surprised the Faeroe islands and Greenland/Kaaalit Nunaak (autonomous regions of Denmark) are not mentioned.
At least for Greenland, independence is scheduled for 2029 (the 1000the anniversary of its discovery by Erik the Red).
I wonder if the French autonomous oversea territory of New Caledonia will not vote for independence one of these days (the local Kanak -nonwhite-population very much favors independence)
The north iraqi kurdistan province might also secede completely from Iraq if the anarchic situation there doesn't improve.
And in Spain if Catalonia opts for independence, the Basque country might follow.
And I've been told that encouraged by what is happening in Scotland, a new referendum on the independence of Quebec could be held soon.
Quebec is having elections next Monday, and things are not looking as good as the were at the start of the campaign for the separatist party, so a referendum is unlikely here in the short to medium term.
Lol, then explain who were all those folks chanting "secede" when Gov Perry spoke at Austin a few years back? I wouldn't doubt polls in Texas show a majority of Republicans wanting secession or nullification. Just wait till Texas elects Ted Nugent's buddy cause we all know a Democratic candidate has around a 1% chance of being elected in that state.

I believe California and Texas were the only states to be briefly republics at one point.
This is true, however today, only Texas would have any shot as it is more united than California. Movements to split up California are as old as the state itself. The north/south division being the oldest. The original proposal to name a state Colorado was not for the current state but for southern California. More recently there are the more politically motivated east/west proposals which never last. The latest one also has a more north/south component to it. the most persistent of these movements involves the creation of the state of Jefferson which involves the far northern counties in California as well as most in southern Oregon. Unless CA unites itself, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Veneto is just a joke.

I think many in NC don't want independence, I guess being an overseas department brings many benefits. A bit like Puerto Rico and the US.
I think Canada would be happy if Quebec leave, but I don't think Quebec will leave because they need all the anglo Canadian money that they get from the rest of anglo Canada
