What's the problem? Taiwan has been classified by many economists to belong to both categories, emerging or developed. Even though it's developed compared to many Western countries, it still shows characteristics of developing countries, which is why it's a bright sign to Taiwan that it is capable of surpassing the living standards of Western countries in GDP per capita terms.
The same goes for South Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong. These 4 economies are collectively known as the Asian Tigers.
Oh it's not about if it's developed or developing.
It's just that Taiwan is in such a ****ing mess right now,it just seems ridiculous that the economy is "emerging".
And I always feel that those GDP datas are very inaccurate.All the datas(IMF,World Bank etc.) rank the GDP per capita of Taiwan right among the western countries,or even higher.That seriously makes me roll my eyes.
What does this list try to say? I don't know. In terms of GDP per capita, HK is more than 10 times higher than some african countries on the list. In terms of total economic size, China is probably bigger than all the countries in this list combined. Where is on earth any similarity between HK and Angola?

I am not finding similarities between Hong Kong and Angola. I am just stating they have something that can challenge the economic dominance of the West in the future.
Hong Kong, along with other Asian Tigers, will challenge the West in terms of living standard.
Angola's population and economy is simultaneously growing very quickly to make it a major player in the global economy in the future along with the other 6 African countries I have listed, namely: South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, and Ethiopia.

Iraq is also politically unstable, but it's economy/population is skyrocketing in recent years. The news you hear every day don't necessarily give you the full picture of a country's well-being.
^It's just how I feel as a Taiwanese living in Taiwan.The economy is deteriorating,the lives of us are not getting any better.All the "emerging" data just seems suspicious and fake to me.
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and South Africa belong to the West. They are not developed countries, it's another question.
On the other hand, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea are developed countries, but don't belong to the West.
Poland and the Czech Republic are without a doubt developed countries, and are pretty 'Western' by all accounts - what are you smoking?
