Phoenix, AZ - Hot, polluted, and endless sprawl. Probably one of the most boring cities of its size.
Orlando, FL - Way too humid, flat, and swampy. Only fun if you're a tourist.
Central Valley, CA - Really hot in the summer, polluted and dusty air, full of hicks and illegal immigrants, not much to do. Just about every city there has been hit with economic downturn and high crime rates (Stockton has one of the highest crime rates in the nation). Not sure why anyone would willingly live here in the first place.
Las Vegas - Don't get me wrong, it's a fun place to visit, but I can't see why anyone would want to live there. Nevada has the highest unemployment rate and one of the highest high school dropout rates. It's also too hot in the summer, and the surrounding desert is not pretty like the Arizona or Utah desert. Personally, I can't imagine myself living in a town that's sole source of income is tourism.
Any country that has a low HDI and/or has a low amount of personal freedom so basically
-North America
-More developed countries in Latin America
-Most of Europe
-Developed East Asia (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore)
-Australia & New Zealand
All countries that perform execution or are totalitarian states.
Places with an extremely hot or cold climate.
Unwalkable, car dependent cities/places.
I'd live in Detroit. You really have no clue, except for the ruin porn you see on the net.
If you're into the ghetto culture, Detroit may be for you. Its not a place where I'd want to raise my children. In addition Chicago, Gary, Atlanta, South LA, (parts of) Miami, the Bronx, Newark, Philly, Baltimore.

Detroit covers 370 square kilometres. It is hardly one giant ghetto.

That's about as intelligent as me saying that Amsterdam is a city unfit for raising a family unless you're into human trafficking.
If you are calling the cities right there ghetto culture, you're basically calling any big city in the world ghetto culture. There's not a big city in the world without poor areas.
