After you completed your compulsory education (9 years) they are free to kick you out of school, if necessary. Attending high school (Gymnasium, Realgymnasium, BORG, HTL, HAK, ...) is considered a privilege. Not a right.

Ah okay then it's very different. In Finland education is a right.

Yeah, education is also considered a right around here. Education from Kindergarten up to a PhD degree is free. But if you don't fulfill the requirements for attending a Gymnasium you'll have to look for other means of education. Like attending a trade school. If you decide to disrespect teachers and generally don't give a crap about school you'll have to settle with a less prestigious school type.
A school can kick you out here, but it is compulsory for anyone aged 5-16 to be in full-time education, so they would certainly need to find another school. There are actually specific schools that take in students who have been kicked out everywhere else.

What does this have to do how people speak to their teacher?
I think our Finnish friends might be exaggerating a bit at how wild things were or are in their schools.
You can't have the very good results they keep obtaining if classrooms were a total free for all. Disruptive behaviour is not conducive to learning. That's a proven fact.

Calling your teacher by his last name has what to do with this?

I am not talking about that. I am talking students being crazy in class to the point of making teachers cry, and the other stuff you and Ariete reported.

Well, if you are unwilling to cooperate you'll be shown the door. Mind you, I'm not aware of a case where someone really got kicked out because of that. Simply because I don't know anyone who's calling his teacher by his first name.
