There approximately a half million Haitians in the Dominican Republic, the other half of the island, and are regarded as a drag on their economy, and they're planning on deporting 100,000 back to Haiti where 40% of Haitians suffer from acute hunger and a cholera outbreak. Port-au-Prince is overrun with violent gangs of kidnappers.
The U.S., Mexico, and other Caribbean countries are also deporting Haitians back to this "Hell Hole".
The U.S. suggested to the Dominican government they build refugee camps.
When they refused, the Biden administration banned Dominican sugar imports.
The issue on this island is cultural, it always has been; dating back several centuries.
Dominican business owners like cheap Haitian labor, only after the Haitian gov fell; the DR is overrun.
Honestly, it's the French who put them in this mess; by raping their land and resources.
Then they charged Haiti a boat load of money for their independence.
Nonetheless, I see about as much hope for Haiti as Liberia.
Haiti is a classic example of a failed state that has collapsed into anarchy and gang violence. This is just one example of other places in Central and South America that has created a domino effect and sent thousands of refugees streaming towards border towns in the United States.
There are numerous reasons for this disaster, corrupt governments, concentrated wealth accumulation in the hands of the few and unchecked gang violence. But one of other looming problems is ongoing climate change causing droughts and crop failures.
