Kuwait is safe, at least is was when I worked there. But it also has many foreigners there to work and live.
Before a couple of weeks ago, I would have said Turkey & Indonesia but both have had recent attacks. I've never heard of attacks in Malaysia. If you want to understand Islam, go to birthing country, Saudi....it also was safe when I was there but they have had a random attack here or there.
Saudi is safe but it would give you an extremely conservative version of Islam where old cultural tradition is combined with extreme wealth & strict government policy mixed with Islamic law. Saudi will not give you idea about how most Muslim in the world practice the religion
Morocco, Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE. Even parts of Southern Thailand are Muslim, but that part of the country has a longstanding terrorism problem of sorts. The Muslims have a gripe with the Buddhist Thais and they're always blowing things up. Usually, the targets are schools and government offices.

For those of you who have traveled more.. do you prefer a low crime Muslim country with the threat of terrorism over a high crime country with no terrorism like Latin America or Africa?
Even though I am Nigerian if I was thinking about it like an American foreigner Western Turkey> Southern Nigeria(65-90% Christian in most parts). If your a Nigerian, Nigeria is number 1 followed by the U.S or U.K. Then at the bottom is a list of Asian countries who's only Nigerian/African immigrants are largely criminals and scammers so they naturally despise Nigerian immigrants.

Yes.
But generally, it's not the 95-100% Muslim countries that are unsafe (with a few notable exceptions). It's the ones where they comprise a 15-20% minority.
The risk is higher in India than in Iran, for example. One is a target and the other is not.

I'll take the former. I really wanted to love South Africa but the constant fear of crime among the locals(white and black) really took away from it. Crime is more random and much more common than terrorism and I think it is much more difficult to make yourself a hard target against it. Being a westerner, I could be targeted for both but usually as a solo traveler, I'm probably not a tempting target for terrorists.
