Does anyone here think Ireland should be independent from England considering their history (potato famine, etc.)? Why or why not? I think they should! What are the pros and cons of this happening? If feel if America can escape England's control, then so can Ireland....although..they are a lot more closer to England than we are, so that might cause a problem with being such a short distance from each other. Maybe if Ireland needed some help, America would be there to assist.
I do not know if you are asking if it has been beneficial to Ireland to be an independent country, or that you think Ireland should be an independent country, because Ireland actually is an independent country, separated from the UK in 1922 and is a republic since 1949.

Perhaps he is talking about Northern Ireland which is still part of the UK.
Im sorry! Im asking if it is beneficial for Ireland to be Independent, thank you!
But a wholly-independent-from-the-UK Republic of Ireland has already achieved its independence, this happened almost one hundred years ago! Guys, what do you think, is this one trolling us?

im not trolling anyone, i honestly had no clue that Ireland was separated, and only Northern Ireland was under British rule. Pardon my lack of knowledge on this subject, but Im over still thinking that Ireland, ALL of it, is still stuck being under Britain's big fat thumb.
But the reason I created this forum, was genuinely to see what the benefits are for, I guess I will have to say Northern Ireland now, to be independent from Britain. I just consider Irish culture and British culture different although they are close together. I do not understand why Britain wants to rule and 'own' Ireland so bad.
The past was awful and as a Briton an open wound on what we did to our Irish neighbours ( not that I or any relative rubbed salt in it...far from it) . Hopefully now we get on, enjoying our football, horse-racing, shared family connections ( vast) and a general British Isles understanding. I suggest, young American, you watch the British and Irish Lions rugby team and see how we get on. But yes Britain broke the glass and it is hard to get your reputation back.
