Sydney, Toronto, Melbourne, Montreal, Brisbane, Vancouver
Rate the allure of these cities from the city that is most appealing and interesting (or your favorite) to the one that is the least.
I personally love all six of these cities, wouldn't ever mind living in any of them for that matter. So would love to see what others think of these six cities and to see if any of these are among the favorites for other people as well. Some things that you can talk about are the things that interest you about these cities; location, history, sense of place/culture, food, activities and events, night scene, scenery, weather, entertainment, wildlife and hiking, amenities, cosmopolitanism, job market, safety and general wellness, livability, and things of that nature.
It really depends on what one finds alluring about a place: In order of size.
Toronto: largest of the bunch that is growing faster than all of them and will be the first megacity.. Incredibly diverse and multicultural - easily trumps the others in this metric but also very cold winters compared to all except Montreal. Like Montreal and Sydney - very large gay population and festivities.
Sydney: Second largest and looks to be busy and bustling but also beautiful and probably more laid back than Toronto.. Haven't been but I think of beaches and probably the most iconic city on the list. Ranks about the same as Toronto for being the most powerful economically though with T.O's faster growth will in short time fall behind it. I would also imagine it has the most overall urban amenities along with Toronto.
Melbourne: Personally the most alluring Australian city to me on the list! Want to ride on those trolleys and experience the Laneways and Arcades! That said, if Sydney Gay/Lesbian Mardi were taken into account i'd have to say they are both equally alluring. I don't care much about beaches.
Montreal: A standout in the group because of French Canadian culture and probably the best architecture/cultural experience of the bunch for those not wanting anglo. Montreal's nightlife is quite a hit with those who visit it. Its fun but the winters are brutal.. Not much worse than Toronto's but still easily the coldest winter weather.
Vancouver: Personally I think this is easily the most beautiful of the bunch! Sure Sydney has beaches but Vancouver has mountains, spectacular parks but also a pretty thriving and dense DT core though not as urban as Toronto, Sydney, Montreal or Melbourne. Truly an urban/outdoor mix that can't be beat on this list if you want/need both.
Brisbane - Don't know much about it - looks like it has a pretty potent skyline for its size but to me probably the least alluring.
Objectively - as an Anglo i'd say Montreal would be the most alluring to me to visit - as long as its in the summer! To live i'd have to stick with my home.
For the last 2 years Sydney's population grew at 86K and 83K, Melbourne's was 96K and 92K. But then Sydney has the fastest growing economy in Australia, the gdp grew 4.3% to $353 bill in 2014 then to 378 bill in 2015. I'm not familiar with how the Canadian cities are growing but hey, at least Sydney's not exactly stagnating

I have been to all of them except for Brisbane. It looks very nice itself and scouting about it online, seems there is very little to actually complain about when it comes to Brisbane.

Biggest thing I found was that it seemed like a much smaller and sleepier city than the others even though it's the same size as Vancouver. If you like big cities with lots of amenities then it wouldn't be your thing. Another thing that I found a bit negative personally compared to Sydney is that nice beaches seemed much further away from the CBD.
