They don't play any music at all in supermarkets where I live. It's very unusual to go into a shop of any sort and to hear music anymore. Some clothing stores at shopping centres still do this... but fewer and fewer of them.

Depends on the supermarket. Where I go shopping there is no music at all. But I was already in supermarkets playing "easy listening" songs (Paul Mauriat, Ray Conniff, Mantovani, etc.), or, if the supermarket is cheap, they use to play brazilian garbage music (pagode, sertanejo, and so on).
