Do you go by overall no. of beautiful spots? Or do you go by beauty per square mile? Answer will depend on that. Places like Iceland, Norway, new zealand would win beauty per square mile category.

It's difficult to go past USA and China in "cumulative beauty" category. But these countries also have miles and miles of boring landscape where nothing really happens.

As far as the single most beautiful area in the world, it is the Swiss Alps. Particularly the village of Zermatt but anywhere along the train ride from Bern and via Brig where you transfer trains. As for the US, it's definitely the Pacific Northwest/Cascade region.

Why Taiwan? It has some beautiful mountainous areas.

After seeing pictures of Indonesia I have to get out there one of these days.

People should watch the documentary called Aerial China on YouTube. First season is available in English. It features geographical wonders that are found throughout the country. I never knew before that China has these unbelievable landscapes.. You have to see it to believe!

The nature is fine but the cities are quite ugly.

If I ever can go to Taiwan I might spend a day or two in Taipei and then I want to check out Wuling Farm and the Heping District area.

In Switzerland The Lauterbrunnen valley under the Jungfrau is one of most spectacular places I've ever seen.
